Alan is a mountaineer, expedition logistics coordinator, wilderness first aid instructor, and active search and rescue volunteer with more than 10 years of experience supporting and leading educational and leadership expeditions in remote mountain environments throughout Chile.
As part of Leadership Expeditions and Vertical’s operations team, Alan plays a key role in the planning, logistics, and execution of leadership expeditions across Chile. He supports the preparation and coordination of equipment, food, transportation, camp infrastructure, route management, and field operations, helping ensure that participants and guides can safely focus on the learning and leadership experience. His work has contributed to the successful delivery of expeditions throughout the Andes, Patagonia, and the Atacama Desert.
Alan began his outdoor career at the Vertical Institute, where he studied Ecotourism Business Administration and developed a passion for mountaineering and wilderness travel. Since then, he has become one of the most experienced expedition coordinators within the organization, supporting programs in a wide variety of mountain environments.
His mountaineering experience is centered in the Central Andes of Chile, where he has completed more than ninety ascents of medium- and high-altitude peaks. His expeditions include mountains such as Tupungato Volcano (6,434 m), Nevado Juncal (5,953 m), Cerro Tórtolas (6,160 m), and Picos del Barroso (5,174 m), among many others.
As Logistics Coordinator, Alan has supported numerous high-altitude expeditions, including more than thirty consecutive expeditions to Cerro El Plomo (5,424 m) since 2016, expeditions to Ojos del Salado (6,893 m), and leadership programs in the Atacama Desert. His responsibilities have included expedition planning, camp management, route preparation, equipment logistics, participant support, and operational coordination in challenging environments.
During his studies, Alan also participated in a 42-day internship in Antarctica and joined multiple high-altitude expeditions with the Vertical Institute’s Mountaineering Program, experiences that further strengthened his expedition and logistical expertise.
Committed to safety and emergency preparedness, Alan has specialized in wilderness medicine and remote-area rescue. He holds certifications including Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), and since 2021 has volunteered with the Chilean Andean Rescue Corps, providing emergency response and rescue support in mountainous terrain.
When not working on expeditions, Alan can usually be found exploring the mountains of the Central Andes. His passion for adventure, operational excellence, and service to others continues to shape his approach to leadership and expedition support.
